Baldness Cures

If you are one of the millions of people that suffer from thinning hair or baldness then you know firsthand how it can affect your level of self confidence. Many people with thinning hair and bald patches will become depressed and even withdraw from society. These people have probably tried everything to cure their baldness but have had no success. Does this mean there really is no such thing as baldness cures? Read on to find out.

If you turn on the TV or read any magazines then you have seen all the advertisements that claim they can cure baldness. Some of these products may actually have some positive affect on your baldness but for the most part a true baldness cure has yet to be found.

However, scientists are doing research right now into stem cell therapy as a cure for baldness. They have identified the master cells or stem cells in mice that are responsible for hair growth. When they transplanted these stem cells into the skin of bald mice, hair started to grow.

The study was able to isolate stem cells in the bulbous follicle at the base of the hair shaft. It is these follicles that will sometimes go into a permanent resting phase and therefore halt all hair growth. The researchers were able to transplant these stem cells found in the base of the hair shaft into other mice. The result was new hair growth in four weeks.

Are stem cell transplants one of the best baldness cures available? The answer to this question is yes and no. First of all, scientists have only identified and transplanted these stem cells in mice. They have yet to identify and isolate the stem cells in humans. Once they do identify these stem cells there is still the issue of harvesting the stem cells. Where will they get them from? Stem cells come from human embryos and right now there is much debate about the ethical and moral issues of using cloned embryos for human research.

As you can see there are a lot of things to sort out before true baldness cures can be found. However, as technology advances there may be a cure just around the corner.

In the interim, you may want to use a mild organic shampoo, consider herbs to help slow or stop your hair loss, practice proper nutrition, avoid stress, and possibly look into medical solutions like Rogaine, Propecia, or even Hair Loss Surgery.

Of course you can always shave your head or purchase a nice hair piece so that no one will know that you are losing your hair.
