Baldness Treatment - What is right for you?
Let's face it. No one wants to become bald. When you start losing your hair you start
losing your self-confidence. So if you have started noticing your hair thinning chances
are you are looking for ways to keep your hair. There are plenty of products on the
market today that claim they can stop your hair loss and help you grow your hair back.
Therefore, how do you know which is the right baldness treatment for you?
The first thing you need to do is to determine the
type of baldness you have. If you are a
male, most of the time you will be suffering from
male pattern baldness. This is a
hereditary form of hair loss that affects millions of men in the United States. The official
name for this type of baldness is androgenetic alopecia and it effects women as well as
men. There is no cure for this type of baldness but there are medications that have been
proven to help re-grow some of the hair that has been lost.
One of the medications that claims it can help with your hair loss is
Minoxidil. This is an
over the counter medication, and it also goes by the brand name of Rogaine.
This
baldness treatment is applied topically to the scalp twice a day. Rogaine will help re-grow
some hair in bald patches, but it is better at slowing down hair loss to help you keep the
hair you currently have. It is much more effective on the crown of the head and not very
effective on the front part of the scalp.
You must be aware that Rogaine can cause side
effects such as itching and burning when you apply it to the scalp. Some people will be
highly sensitive to this baldness treatment and can develop breathing problems and chest
pain. If you are using Rogaine and experience these symptoms stop using Rogaine
immediately and seek medical attention.
Another medication that seems to be effective in treating hair loss is
Propecia. This is a prescription medication that is actually a lower dose
version of the drug that is used to shrink the prostate in middle aged men.
Propecia has been proven to grow and thicken the
hair, but it is much more effective in maintaining the hair that you already
have.
Propecia is a baldness treatment that can be used by men only. Women should
never take Propecia or even touch the tablets. This medication has been
proven to cause abnormalities in the
male genitalia if the pregnant mother came into contact with it.
As you can see, a baldness treatment that can help you
re-grow your hair with 100% certainly may not exist just yet. However, don't
despair because you still have options. You may decide to
embrace your
baldness or to get a hairpiece. Whatever you decide you must remember that
being bald does not change who you are on the inside.
