A lot of bald men embrace their baldness and shave their heads. I tried it, and quite honestly the shaved head look is NOT for me. It does look good on some men, or so my lady friends tell me.
Here are some general head shaving tips:
First, there are instructional videos available on YouTube, but because they are amateur, “buyer beware” is key here.
To make your first attempt, first trim your hair down to stubble, i.e. as low as hair clippers can possibly go. This is best done with the help of a barber.
Wet your head completely. After a shower is best because the entire scalp is fully moisturized.
Apply the best shaving cream or gel you can find to the entire top of your head. I recommend selecting the right cream or gel by beginning with an ordinary daily shave with a manual razor. This allows you, at the same time, to decide which razor is best for you. I myself have had my best luck with Gillette’s Mach 3 and good old traditional Barbasol Cool Menthol, which also has the advantage of being very cheap for a great big can. Might last you several months.
Work the cream or gel into your scalp as thoroughly as possible. This step is not to be omitted, as you want to minimize any unwanted nicks or scrapes, some of which tend to bleed which is extremely annoying.
In general, follow the same instructions you would for a regular beard and mustache shave. Shave with the grain. Try to pass over each area only once, to limit the chance of a nick. Do not apply too much pressure – let the razor do the work. Short, even strokes, as with regular shaving, tend to be more accurate and again make razor bumps and abrasions less likely.
Your scalp, obviously, is not your face. But like your face, your scalp has regions of differing surfaces – ridges and curves. Try to learn these so as again to minimize injury.
Finally, rinse thoroughly and complete your usual post-shave routine! There is no reason for a man who enjoys after-shave not to apply it to his scalp as he would his face. And admire the quality of the results in the mirror!
Now remember, your head may never have been this bald before!
Take adequate precautions -- wear a hat to protect
against cold and sun. Your freshly bald head may sunburn amazingly fast,
and might get cold extremely easily. I even had to sleep with a hat for
the first few nights.
