Dealing With Rapid Hair Loss

If you are worried about losing your hair, there are things you can do to prevent hair loss from happening. It is much easier to prevent hair from falling than it is to replace hair that is already lost. If you use the following natural hair loss prevention techniques you may be able to stop hair loss in it's tracks.

No one wants to see their hair falling out. But for many people it is a reality. If you start to notice more hair in your hairbrush and more hair in the sink you may just be experiencing normal pattern baldness. However, if the hair loss happens quickly then you need to investigate the causes of your rapid hair loss.

If you are sure that your hair loss is not due to pattern baldness then you need to be aware of what can cause rapid hair loss. The most common cause of hair loss is a hormone imbalance. This is true in men as well as women. If you develop thyroid problems then you can bet your hormones are going to become imbalanced also. If you suspect a thyroid condition you should see your doctor right away to get your thyroid tested. Your doctor may prescribe medication for you if your thyroid is not functioning properly.

Maybe you have noticed hair loss in a loved one, and you are pretty sure it is not caused by an underlying medical condition. You need to be aware there is a condition called trichotillomania. This is a mental disorder in which the affected person will compulsively pull out their hair. The root cause of this disorder is still unknown. Once the mental disorder is treated successfully, the hair should grow back.

Chemotherapy is another cause of rapid hair loss. This is a side effect that most people will expect when they undergo chemo treatments for cancer. The chemo kills off cancer cells, but in the meantime it can kill off healthy hair follicle cells. A person undergoing chemo can lose all of their hair in a matter of days after the chemo treatment. However, this is a small price to pay if it means the cancer will be stopped.

If you are the type of person that is constantly trying new hair styles then you may experience rapid hair loss. Excessive pulling on the hair can cause it to come loose and fall out. Therefore, if you like to wear cornrows or hairstyles in which the hair is pulled tight then you may be setting yourself up for thinning hair. It is best to give your hair a rest and let it hang naturally at times. This will slow down the hair loss.

It is important to keep in mind if you don't have any of the above conditions, but you start to notice rapid hair loss you should see your doctor right away. There may be a medical condition that is causing your hair to fall out. Disease such as lupus and diabetes can cause thinning hair. Diabetes left untreated can result in major organ damage and even death. Lupus is an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in the cells throughout your body. Untreated lupus can cause major organ damage.

So as you can see rapid hair loss is an indicator that something is very wrong. You need to find the cause of this type of hair and get treatment. Pay attention to your hair, it could just save your life.
